ELAC
Each California Public School from Kindergarten through grade 12, with 21 or more English learners must form an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). The ELAC is a committee for parents, staff or other community members to be a voice for English learners and get involved and support English learners along their paths to lifelong learning and success.
The role of the ELAC is to advise the Principal on programs and services for English learners and specifically the on the development of the Single School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). The ELAC acts in an advisory capacity. It is not a decision making body, but it is the voice of the English learner community. The percentage of parents of English learners on the committee must be at least the same as that of English learners at the school. ELAC has at least one representative on District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC).
